Upcoming Gigs
JOAN & THE GIANTS - residency + NICK KEOGH + Guests
Joan & The Giants are a must-see act from Western Australia, now based in Melbourne, crafting heart-on-sleeve alt-pop rock that fuses stadium-sized energy with shimmering, deeply intimate lyricism.
This August 2026, they’re bringing their powerhouse live show to The Old Bar for a special Tuesday night residency, joined each week by some of the most exciting emerging local Naarm bands.
No two Tuesdays will be the same — expect new songs, forgotten favourites, unexpected covers, special guest appearances, and plenty of moments that only happen in a packed room on a winter night. Come get cosy, sip some wine, and dance your way through the cold with Joan & The Giants.
THE GENEVIEVES - launch + EQUESTRIAN FIELDS + THE
The Genevieves are an Adelaide-based alternative rock band. The four piece occupy a sonic liminal space between dense, guitar heavy soundscapes and self-reflective, pop-derived melodies. Formed in 2023 as a solely collaborative project, the absence of a consistent ‘front-person’ illuminates all four creative voices, which manifests in their recorded work and live sets through ever-changing vocal combinations, writing styles, and a sense of unpredictability. The Genevieves–with ever-increasing national attention–are gearing up for a new single release in 'Sprinkler'. They return to Naarm to celebrate the single release with fellow exciting Naarm locals The Noise & Equestrian Fields on August 28th at Old Bar on in Fitzroy.
JUSTIN KELLY + POSTURES + MHO
With his guitar in hand, and a little help from his friends, a suite of jangly bedroom rock numbers are ready to be let loose. Justin's latest full length album 'Dive', is set for release very soon and to celebrate he'll be playing all the new tunes at good ol' Old Bar. The show will be with his full band as well as shows from very special guests Postures and Mho (Canmaster Smash).
STRAWBERRY PRINCE + BLINKING, HUNTING + AMYLYN VANCE
Born in Canberra and currently based in Melbourne, the past four years have seen Strawberry Prince winning over crowds in both cities with his consistently unique approaches to indie-folk conventions. Produced by Melbourne music scene staple Liam ‘Snowy’ Halliwell, his debut album ‘Developing Narratives’ (released in 2025) showcases his distinct voice across a dynamic and eclectic collection of songs.
Joined by friends at The Old Bar, Blinking Hunting and LisaLisa will accompany for a night of soft sounds.
CHOMP + VARUNI LILA + THE SHORE
CHOMP are an upcoming 5 piece band from Narrm Melbourne, ranging between genres of punk/rock to metal.
CHOMP are passionate about the music they create. The music they write is influenced by pressing political situations around the world, such as AI, climate change and Womens rights.
Catch CHOMP at The Old Bar on the 23rd of August for their debut headline gig, supported by Varuni Lila and The Shores.
SUPERMODELS + VIOLET + CHELSEA HOTEL
Supermodels are back!
Following a short break after the release of their well-received album SUPERMODERN in February, the band realised they were sitting on 5 unreleased tracks from those recording sessions that definitely deserve to see the light of day. The resulting 8-song EP, set for digital release on August 14, shall be titled EXTRAMODERN, and also includes 3 live tracks of the mods at their ferocious gigging best! To celebrate the band is hitting the Old Bar with friends Violet and Chelsea Hotel. BE THERE OR BE DISAPPOINTED (the only 2 options xx).
FREE ENTRY ARVO SHOW w/ MESS IS LAW - launch + SONS OF CITRUS
It has been a little while but we are stoked to announce we have a new single, the first off a forthcoming album about to drop on all streaming services. The song is called Every Monument Will Fall with details to follow shortly. To get us all in the celebratory spirit we are launching the single at the Old Bar in Fitzroy on Saturday August 22. An afternoon show with doors opening at 3 we are pleased to have sonic mind melters Sons of Citrus join us on the bill. Not that you need any encouragement, but it here is no cover charge. What’s not to like! Slide this one in the diary and we look forward to hitting the stage with some new tuneage. @justagrambro @russellwscoones @ryanjames1221 @davidantcross

WAPPERIN (JPN) + THE PINK TILES + ZIVA + CAT CRAWL
WAPPERIN — AUSTRALIAN TOUR 2026
Nagoya’s extreme new-wave mavericks WAPPERIN return to Australia this August for a limited run of explosive live shows.
Driven by the pounding drums of Hiroshi Hasegawa and the wild vocals and twisted keyboards of FUJIN (Hiroka Hasegawa), WAPPERIN collide jagged synths, unpredictable rhythms and off-kilter pop melodies with the raw energy of Japan’s underground music scene. Strange, playful and relentlessly physical, their performances transform the stage into a whirlwind of sound, movement and controlled chaos.
Following their successful first Australian visit in 2025, WAPPERIN return for a handful of intimate shows across Victoria. Expect pounding beats, warped electronics and an unforgettable performance from one of Nagoya’s most distinctive underground acts.
