PUBLIC HOLIDAY EVE: SLIM JEFFRIES + BIFF + HELLO KRISSY + POLITE SKELETONS
This could be your last chance to see Slimmos, the roach of Melbourne's pub rock scene that has refused to die for the last 11 years. For over a decade the band has stuck it out through thick and thin but all good things must come to an indefinite hiatus at one point or another. Lead singer Hugo is moving to the UK and that means for the time being the thunderous riffs of Slim Jeffries will no longer be ringing out onto the streets of Melbourne's inner north. It's been a huge journey and the only way to cap off a huge journey is with a huge celebration. Come down to the Oldy for a midweek blowout on the eve of a public holiday. Hello Krissy, BIFF and Polite Skeletons will be joining the bill for a night of mayhem. $15 presale, $20 on the door.

WILDING - Launch + RED SPENCER + FOLLIES
This is the big one!
Melbourne/Naarm artist WILDING celebrates the release of new album Whatever I Am with a massive launch party at The Old Bar, Fitzroy.
Whatever I Am is out on Friday 3 May.
Come along to hear Wilding’s barbed slice-of-life songs about escaping from the mundane, exploring one’s identity, misguided tech-love, the daily absurdities of trying to get by, freedom through velocity, stale misplaced dreams, and the struggle to get off the sofa. All these themes are entwined within a patchwork of working-class characters and experiences. And dotted with Wilding’s own ultra-specific reference points of biscuits, betting shops, and domesticity.
At its core, Whatever I Am is an album about generational identity. Wilding asks… is this me? Was this me? Will this be me?
The Wilding band experience is a charming clash of neo-disco grooves, bouncy synths, sleek new wave basslines, and awkwardly bent Britpop guitar hooks.
Joining Wilding will be the melancholically uplifting jangle-pop of REDSPENCER and the post-punk sounds of newcomers FOLLIES.
The artists acknowledge that this performance takes place on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We pay respects to elders past and present and emerging. We also recognise sovereignty has never been ceded and no treaty has been signed.
ARVO SHOW: MOLLY MCKEW - Launch + ALLY MAC
Ally Mac - 4pm
Molly Mckew - 5pm
Ally Mac
Ally Mac is a singer, songwriter and musician from Melbourne, Australia. Raised in a musical household, she began performing professionally in her teen years as a singer and dancer prior to her emergence as a songwriter in her early twenties. On her debut EP release, “Sensibility”, due out in mid 2022, Ally Mac’s silvery vocals act as a counterpoint to her roaring and gritty compositions, like a siren wielding her very first electric guitar. Awash with 90s influences, her sound elicits; PJ Harvey and Kylie Minogue, Pixies and Garbage.
https://soundcloud.com/ally-mac-825300567
Molly Mckew:
Molly Mckew (guitar/vox) performs moody, often sad, alt-folk drenched in harmony. Her unique celtic influenced alt-folk/pop is an amalgamation of the European folk and choral music of her childhood, the 90s and 2000s rock/pop of her teenagehood, and her heartbroken contemporaries. She released her debut solo EP, 'I couldn't grasp it' in August 2022, and two singles from the forthcoming album ‘I dream of the lightness of the presence of you’ and ‘On waking up, it was still true’ in 2023. She released a third single and video 'The shape of grief' in March 2024. Her album ‘It should have been done with ease” will be released through Dinkum Records (Narrm/Melbourne) on April 26th. It was recorded at Road Noise Studios by Rowena Wise and features violin by Rowena Wise, Cello by Vincent Ward and piano by Didirri Peters. Mckew’s record is an intimate collection of songs that explore heartbreak, fantasy, rumination and absence.

SUN RUN (NSW) + GARAGE SALE + WORLD SICK
Formed in 2022 (Eora/Sydney), Sun Run blends elements of post-hardcore, punk and alt-rock, while retaining their emo and DIY roots in delivery, sentiment, and ethos.
During a tour in the USA, Sun Run spent some time with friends Ian Farmer and Zack Robbins at The Metal Shop in Philadelphia, PA to capture the next development of their sound and approach. The result was Crossing, a three-track titled for the peculiarities of the Philadelphia crosswalk system, and a response to modern post-hardcore, with particular focus on the space and time in which it was recorded. The release was mixed by Chris Baglivo and mastered by Ian Farmer and his cat Onion.
Crossing will be released digitally on 26 April, followed by an east coast tour, with World Sick and Garage Sale joining them at the Old Bar.
A. SWAYZE & THE GHOSTS - launch w/ BENCH PRESS
2021 AIR nominated artist (Best Independent Punk Album or EP) - Paid Salvation
ALBUM OF THE WEEK (Paid Salvation 2019 LP): Double J
The Au Review, The Music.com.au, MTV Australia
'Connect to Consume' featured on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 & 2 soundtrack
"THIS YEAR CARRIES THE WEIGHT OF THREE: AN URGENT COLLECTION OF NEW MUSIC, A RECENTLY GAINED INDEPENDENCE, AND THEIR HIGHLY ANTICIPATED RETURN TO THE STAGE."
“Impassioned, intelligent punk” (DIY) group A. Swayze & the Ghosts are a potent force within the world of modern post-punk. Erupting into the scene with critically acclaimed, “end to end faultless” (The Guardian) and ARIA nominated debut “Paid Salvation”, the band has been capturing the attention of global audiences with rousing music conceived by a nervy charge and drilled urgency as they “understand that the point of punk wasn’t just to make a racket. It was to make a difference” (Louder Than War). The album was championed by The Guardian, NME, MOJO, BBC1, Beats One, Clash Magazine and many other notable music publications including a sync on the recent remaster of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
Led by the charismatic and enigmatic lead singer, Andrew Swayze, the Australian five-piece has amassed a fervent following with their incendiary, and oftentimes, “unpredictable, risky and unhinged” (Triple J) live performances.
Emerging from a touring hiatus, during which the band turned inwards to explore their musical style, AS&TG’s latest single “Cool Cucumber” marks a departure from their established abrasive sound. Synthesisers and saxophones replace frantic urgency and political undertones, resulting in a refreshing joviality that nevertheless carries their post-punk signature.
The spacious groove in “Cool Cucumber” is an invitation to dance, with the song both lyrically and sonically symbolising the progression of the band into a genre-melding, dance-music-meets-70s-New-York-punk outfit. This self-described “Bowie-punk” sound marks the beginning of a new era for a band that has consistently provoked boundaries and norms with their expression as artists and performers.

THE OLD BAR GALLERY: BLONDE PLEASURE ECONOMY SALE - SAGAN EXHIBITION OPENING w/ CRYPTID + DEJECTOR
I am a commodity. This is a Sagan sale with wholesale prices. Every ounce of dignity must go!
You want a piece of me? I’ll give you a price. I am NOT reclaiming my body, I am relinquishing myself to my fate.
Choose which version of me you’d like to experience. I don’t make any art. I have never in my life made any art. I can’t understand art because I am a literalist. I am a literalist and this is the logical conclusion of society’s treatment of me. You cannot purchase art, you can purchase merchandise. You can purchase a piece of me.
You project your ideas of me and I rise to create what you need me to be. Who am I anymore?
Which Sagan is the real one? You decide.
My influences are the blurred lines between selling my time and company for cash and how I leverage myself in relationships (with little financial return). I’m drawing a clear line now on how others can have access to me.

ROBOTS IN LOVE (NZ) + PALLIATIVE + SUBURBAN SPELL
Catch New Zealand's ROBOTS IN LOVE before they return to the land of the long white cloud!
ROBOTS IN LOVE - Robots in Love infuse intense emotion into electronic music. Their unique sound combines heavy guitar and drums with layers of synths and sub-bass and melodic vocals from Elenor Rayner (Sobriquet, The Crystalline Effect). Elenor will be joined on the night by guitarist Mik Thornley and Carlos on drums.
https://open.spotify.com/artist/0MyOG7EvRVbimlEvzLTeJG
Supporting them on the night are:
SUBURBAN SPELL - Suburban Spell combines austere 80’s new wave sensibilities, driving rhythms, and some noisy shoe gaze grind. Influenced by the heyday of new wave and ’70’s-’80’s electronica, this music carries the imprints of Ultravox, OMD, Visage, Jean-Michel Jarre, Gary Numan, and New Order. Suburban Spell is the project of Peter Endall playing keys and taking on lead vocal’s, joined live with Johnny B on guitar and Jack on bass. Despite its breezy, ethereal dance nature, the lyrics delve into the complex nature of human belief systems, religious or otherwise and they employ stark, dystopian minimalism to explore the frailty hidden behind the suburban ideal’s pristine veneer.
